Digital Story

The story

Elizabeth Ore is a junior at UNC Chapel Hill who started her own cookie business as a freshman while juggling being a student. Her love for baking comes from her mom who would always have freshly baked goods in the house growing up. When covid hit she started baking a lot when there was nothing to do. One day she made a really big chocolate chip cookie and someone wanted to buy it. That was the moment she knew she wanted to start a business. At first she made all type of baked goods, but then decided to just focus on cookies.

According to Elizabeth, she talked about how the biggest obstacle she faces while running a business is herself. She mentioned how hard she is on herself while juggling running a business and being a college student. During second semester of sophomore year, she knew she was tired and needed to take a break, but didn’t listen to the voice in her head right away.

Why this story is important?

Elizabeth is able to control her own schedule in college which gives her the flexibility to enjoy her college life. She learned she needed to make changes to her business because the pressure of being a student and making cookies all the time was too much for her. This story demonstrates the freedom you have when having your own business instead of being tied down to a normal job. By having your own business at a young age, it allows you to make money a convenient way.

Starting something of your own brings purpose and meaning to your life. It is something you will always have as a job for the rest of your life. Elizabeth does what she loves to do which in return makes other people happy. Her favorite part of having her business is the smile people have on their face when they try her cookies. A 9 to 5 job doesn’t work for everybody. When you find something you are passionate about then there are multiple ways to succeed in life without having a typical job.

Running Bibs Bites

Where Elizabeth sells her cookies is always changing. She only does caters and pop ups which gives her the freedom in making her own decisions. This is a great part of having your own business. She does pop ups at Brandweins Bagel Shop, Mean Time Coffee, Shortbread Lofts, and more locations in Chapel Hill. Based on her course load of that week she decides if she wants to do a pop up or not which works the best for her. Elizabeth bakes her cookies at a community kitchen where she rents out the space and stores her cookies there. She buys her supplies at Restaurant Depot where she gets her supplies in bulk for cheaper prices.

Here is one of Elizabeth Ore’s Cookie Recipes. Her cookies are so amazing and melt in your mouth. She recommends microwaving your cookie for 10 seconds for the perfect bite. She does pop ups and custom orders. Her flavors at the moment are chocolate chunk, funfetti, snickerdoodle, double chocolate, and mocha. She changes the flavors based on holidays.
